How A Servant Of God
Faced Depression

Have you ever been depressed? Then read about two of
God's servants that faced depression and what they did
to overcome it and How God helped them
and answered prayers as well.

(1 Samuel 1:1-20)

Hannah and Elkanah were husband and wife.
He had two wives and Hannah could not have kids.
His other wife {Peninnah} had kids.
Hannah became very depressed and cried and even
refused to eat. She was deeply grieved.
Peninnah made fun of Hannah. This also hurt her
feelings, I'm sure. How would you feel if someone
picked on you?Elkanah asked Hannah why she
was crying and would not eat. He felt that at
least Hannah had him and he would treat her right.
He even gave Hannah double portions for the
offerings because he loved her so much.
While the Elkanah and Hannah were at the tabernacle
with their offerings, Eli the priest saw hannah
crying and praying.Hannah made a promise to the Lord
that if he would give her a son, she would give
him back to the Lord for all his life.
Hannah prayed quietly, her lips moved as
if she were talking but Eli heard no words
come out of her mouth. He actually thought she
was drunk and told her to stop drinking.
Hannah told Eli that she was not drunk, rather she
was very sad and had nothing to drink, but poured
her soul out to the Lord. She told him not to think
of her as a bad person because she had prayed
what was in her heart of how sad she was.
Eli told her to go in peace and may God grant her
petition. So they each went their way. She said:
" Let your maidservant find favor in your sight."
The bible then tells that she went her way and ate
and her face was no longer sad.
The next day Hannah and her husband worshipped the
Lord and they knew each other.
The bible says that with the passing of time
she gave birth to a son and called him Samuel.

(Read verse 20)
Did you catch the meaning of his name?
Samuel means: Because I have asked for him
of the Lord.
Did you notice that when Hannah was crying and
unhappy she prayed to the Lord? The Lord
answered her prayer.
Did you also notice in verse 18 that after she prayed
she was no longer sad?
The verse reads: .....so the woman went her way
and ate and her face was no longer sad.
It was as if after she prayed and asked the Lord
for a son, before she even had a son,
that she was no longer sad but rather happy
and even ate.

Can you think of some bible verses that talk
about prayer?

How about Phillipians 4:6?

See if you can fill in the missing words .
