So they bound him with two new ropes and led him from the rock.  As he approached Lehi, the Philistines came toward him shouting.  The Spirit of the Lord came upon him in power.  The ropes on his arms became like charred flax and the bindings dropped from his hands.  Finding a fresh jawbone of a donkey, he grabbed it and struck down a thousand men.  Judges 15:14-15 (NIV)

Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world.  But when the fullness of the time was come God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, to redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.  Galatians 4:3-5 (KJV)

This passage is speaking of Samson.  He had literal ropes binding him.  But God came upon him in power!  The ropes were nothing to hold him when the Spirit of the Lord came.  The bonds that had held him were loosed and dropped from his hands.  He killed a thousand men with one donkey jawbone.  This is the power that we are called to walk in.  Before Jesus, we were in bondage.  Now, the bonds are loosed.  We are commanded to come out of the bonds to walk a new life.  We have received the adoption of son that makes us joint heirs with Christ.  Wait!  Look!  This is the same Lord that came upon Samson.  With the power of the Lord, we can slay thousands.  Now, I don’t mean go out and kill people.  However, in the power of the Lord, we are free to strike down those who hold us in bondage. The powers and principalities of darkness cannot hold us any longer.  This is the power we are called to walk in.  To know with our hearts that we are not bound to the law but are called to live above the law.  We are not to live in lives of sin, but rather in the life of Jesus who was perfect.  We are to live lives worthy of sons.  This is the power of the Lord, that we might have the life of Jesus within us, rather than the death of the law.  This is the power, that we are called to walk as Jesus walked.  This is the power, that we are joint heirs with Christ.

Father, I thank you for another lesson of power.  Thank you for showing us that we need not live in bondage to the things of darkness.  Thank you that we are joint heirs with Christ and can walk as he walked.  Father, you cause us to rise above the cares of this world that would hold us down.  In Jesus name, you train us to walk in the power of the Lord, amen.
