“Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons.  Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side.”

She left him and afterward shut the door behind her and her sons.  They brought jars to her and she kept pouring.  When all the jars were full, she said to her son, “Bring me another one.”  But he replied, “There is not a jar left.”  Then the oil stopped flowing.

 II Kings 4: 4-5 (NIV)

He went in, shut the door on the two of them and prayed to the Lord.  II Kings 4: 33 (NIV)

But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen.  Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.  Matthew 6:6 (NIV)

After he put them all out, he took the child’s father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was.  Mark 5:40 (NIV)

There is power in being alone with Jesus.  We are instructed to go into our room or our closet to pray.  Now this is not the only time we are allowed to pray, for we see Jesus praying in public at times also.  However, there is power in that one on one time with Jesus.  Alone with the Lord, the dead have been raised, the oil was poured forth and what has been unseen is seen by the Father.  Jesus spent time in the crowds, yes, but he also spent time alone, on the mountains or in the gardens praying, with the disciples, and as you see above, with the families of those who were in mourning.  Jesus spends time with you, whenever you are willing.  There is great power when we follow the word of the Lord and pray in private, making sure that what is prayed is in agreement with him.  Learn to experience the power of being alone with Jesus.

Father, take us to our hidden places to spend time with you.  For the sake of the name of Jesus, let us see the great miracles you long to work in our lives and in the lives of those around us.  Let us experience the fullness of your power.  Father, do not allow us to stay beaten down or in mourning.  In Jesus name, teach us the faith that is needed, give us the strength in times of trouble, and keep our feet on solid ground.  For the sake of the name of Jesus guide us as we learn to walk, amen.
