Touched by Tears

As he approached the town gate, a dead person was being carried out-the only son of his mother, and she was a widow.  And a large crowd from the town was with her.  When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, “Don’t cry.”  Then he went up and touched the coffin, and those carrying it stood still.  He said, “Young man, I say to you, get up!”  The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother.  Luke 7:12-15

Do you see the heart full of love the Savior has?  This woman was mourning the loss of her only son.  She was alone in the world, except for her many friends.  She must have been well thought of for there was a large crowd with her.  Yet, she cried.  Her tears touched the heart of Jesus.  Do you see the love in his eyes?  Do you hear what he might have been thinking?  He knew what was to come.  He knew that he would die.  He knew the heart of his mother would break.  He looked at this mother and had compassion on her.  He told her not to cry.  She probably looked at him in shock at those words.  After all, had she not lost her only son?  At those words, the funeral procession stopped.  Those carrying the coffin stopped still in their tracks.  They saw the love in his eyes.  They did not know what was to come, but they saw Jesus heart touched.  Do you ever wonder what he was thinking?  Now, just suppose he was thinking of you.  What if he, at that moment in time, thought of you and that he was soon to die for you?  Do you see the eyes of love?  Do you understand that he truly did know what was to come?  He knew everything.  How great is the love of the one, who at his command, the dead rose?  This is the love of the Savior for you.  Your tears touch his heart.  When you hurt, his heart goes out to you.  He knows your pain.  He feels it with you.  His hand is the hand that brings you comfort in pain.  This man was raised temporary.  He has it planned for you to be raised to life eternal.  Jesus love gives life to those that are dead in sin.  His love is your hope.  His love is the grace that brings you to him.

Father, I thank you that the Lord is touched by our tears.  I thank you for a God of compassion and love.  Let us see those eyes of love.  Let those eyes draw us closer and closer to you.  Stop us in our tracks that we may experience the miraculous touch of the one who causes the dead to rise.  Let that love be our motive for doing for others.  Let our hearts be touched as yours was touched.  In Jesus name, let that love be made perfect within us, amen.
