Waters of Misunderstanding Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of living water welling up to eternal life.” The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.” John 4: 13-15 Have you ever been misunderstood? Jesus was! Look at her reply to him. She just did not get what he was saying. She thought he was speaking of literal water and that she would never have to return to the well to draw water again. However, what he meant was greater. He meant that she could live with him forever in heaven. He had communicated this with her, but she misunderstood. Look at the eyes of the Savior again. Can you see in them the desire he had for her to understand? Can you see the hurt that must have filled his heart? He knows your pain. He knows what it means to be misunderstood. He will walk with you through those times you are misunderstood. Ask him for that living water. That water will well up within you and give you whatever you need to get through the hurt of being misunderstood. Not only that, but that water never runs out. It is always there. Let his strength carry you through. Let his spirit lead you. Let him encourage you to never give up. Let him be your source of hope, that living water that flows forth in spite of hurtful, hard times. Father, I praise you that Jesus knows what it means to be misunderstood. I thank you that we serve a Savior who has felt what we feel. Father, the areas in our life that we are misunderstood, you work through us and not let that time become a deep dark hole that keeps up from you. Father, you be our strength and let us react in the manner of Jesus when we are misunderstood. Let us speak with kindness and gentleness to those who misunderstand what we are all about. In Jesus name, we praise you that you have overcome the world, Lord, amen. All rights reserved: Amy Seelbach To be added to the devotionals mailings, please click on the button below.
