I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb. Strike the rock, and water will come out of it for people to drink. Exodus 17:6 (NIV) Again and again they struck him on the head with a staff and spit upon him. Falling on their knees, they paid homage to him. Mark 15:19 (NIV) Whoever believes in me as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him. John 7:38 (NIV) As you recall, we are seeking out the truth of the Rock from which we are cut. The Rock of Horeb is the Rock of God (Exodus 3:1). When Moses struck the rock, water flowed forth. Jesus is the Rock. He was struck again and again upon the head with a staff or a rod. See, the picture? Moses struck the rock with his staff. The soldiers struck the head of Jesus with a staff. Jesus told the woman at the well that he could give her water and she would never thirst again. Those who are born of water and of the blood have streams of living water that flow within them. The stream of living water flows from the throne of God. We are cut from the Rock of God. Our lives should reflect the glory of the Most High God. We have come to Mt. Zion, where the cornerstone is laid. That cornerstone is Jesus. There is coming a day when every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. However, for some, that day shall be too late for them to go to heaven to live with him. For them, they shall be separated from him eternally. For those who have counted the cost and put their hands to the plow, we already bow before the King of Kings and know that he is who he says he is. In this, we have hope. The stream of living water never dries up, even when you feel overwhelmed with the things of this earth. Once again, let’s look at Jesus. He is beaten and afflicted. He has no intact skin left upon his body. They spit upon him and mock him. If he ever knew struggle, he knows it now. Through this struggle he knows your struggles. He knows what it is like to be unloved. He knows what it is like to be mocked. He knows what it means to feel physical pain. Jesus knows. He is the living stream within you. Through him, you have the strength to endure all things. You not only have the strength to endure, but to overcome!! He is the overcomer! He lives within you, when you have made the decision to be his. We are cut from the Rock who overcame death and hell. We are the winners! Father, I thank you for this picture of Jesus. I praise your name that he was beaten and afflicted in my place. I praise you that through Jesus, streams of living water flow from within me. I praise you that I draw upon those streams in the hard times that come. I praise you that you are the Lord Most High and that you endured the cross that I might have eternal life with you. I thank you for each trial and tribulation that comes my way, for through those things, you are proven faithful. In Jesus name I praise you for being you, amen.
