The Renewing of the Mind

The whirling of the mind is something that only those those who have endured it can understand it.  I am no stranger to the whirling of the mind.  My mind has gone round and round with trouble, both real and imagined.  This mind of mine was more than I could control.  The whirling of the mind led me to many sinful acts.  That is the sin nature at work within me.  Ok, I admit it.  I am powerless.  The sin nature within me is greater and stronger than my will and my ability to handle.  I cannot change those around me, even though I know my way is better.  I keep doing the same things over and over again expecting different results and finding myself crushed when things, people, circumstances and my actions and reactions do not change.  Now what?    2 Corinthians 12:9 states  “And he hath said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my power is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest upon me”.  Where I am powerless, God’s power comes forth in perfection.  I believe that he can overcome within me by the power of his Holy Spirit, those very things that I am powerless over.  I believe that he is who he says he is and that he will do what he says he will do.  He says his power is made perfect in my weakness.  Do you believe this?  Do you believe that the Lord Jesus is willing to work his power in your weakness?

Grace to you and peace be multiplied in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; seeing that his divine power hath granted unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that called us by his own glory and virtue; whereby he hath granted unto us his precious and exceeding great promises; that through these ye may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in that world by lust (2 Peter 2-4).  Through Jesus we have a new nature!  We have the divine nature of the Lord Jesus Christ.  Wherefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature: the old things are passed away; behold, they are become new (2 Corinthians 5:17).  Today is the day to realize that Jesus can and will place in you his divine nature.  Once you are bought with the blood of Jesus, you are no longer the same old person you once were.  Your life is changed from that day forward.  You are made new in Jesus.

Today, come to believe this in your heart and in your mind.  Once you have come to believe this, then you are ready to move on to the next step in maturity.

Some simple steps to help you realize that Jesus can and will renew your mind and heart and create in you a new way of living.

  1. Name your recurring fears that are not based in solid evidence or proof.

  1. List the people in your life whom you resent, either continually, or periodically.  How does this affect your life and feelings?

  1. What self-degrading, self-defeating behaviors do you engage in, knowing that they are harmful to you?  Things such as overeating, binging, purging, drinking, using drugs, striking out in rage and things such as this.

  1. List how you have put off getting the help you needed, physically, emotionally, financially, or otherwise.

  1. Tell how you attempt to control those around you, even when to try to control them brings harm to you or others.

  1. Having looked at these areas and any other areas that you know are problems for yourself, write in your own words how your mind, emotions, spirit, health, etc. needs to be renewed and reaffirm the faith that God can and will renew you.

Having completed these simple steps, do you believe that Jesus can and will renew your mind and lead you into a new way of living?  Write in  your own words something along the lines of:  I believe that the Lord Jesus Christ can and will renew my mind and my life and place within me the divine nature of himself.

Father, I lift each one to you as they endeavor to learn your ways and to allow you to renew their minds.  Father, help them to be totally open and honest with how and why they need to be restored.  Father, in Jesus name prove your faithfulness to do as your word says.  Father, give each one peace as they learn to rest and trust in you, when they have never trusted in anyone before.  Lord, show them that you will never leave them nor forsake them.  In Jesus name, amen.
