Behaviors of Overindulgence Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. I Corinthians 6:9-10 (NIV) Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: Neither fornicators, nor idolators, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. I Corinthians 6:9-10 (KJV) The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. Galatians 5:19-21 (NIV) Now the works of the flesh are manifest which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. Galatians 5:19-21 (KJV) But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars-their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death. Revelation 21:8 (NIV) But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. Revelation 21:8 (KJV)
Describe your actions, attitudes and feelings about money. What place does money play in your life? Is it the first priority? How important is financial security to you? Is this a source of idolatry to you?
List anything that has come before God as a priority in your life. Some of the things to consider are: people, places, things, money, your physique, thoughts, drugs, drinking, and the desires to please yourself, and the list goes on. If you think it has come before God in your life, list it here.
Have you ever taken anything that you should not have taken? List here the things you have taken that were not yours, including things like money, possessions, time, personal effects, affections, others self-esteems, time, securities, and things such as these. By what right did you take these? List your actions, attitudes and feelings.
Do you try to keep up with the Joneses as the old saying goes? Do you ever envy when someone has something that you do not have? List any ways that you have coveted, or desired after the things that you did not have that you wanted, being sure to include actions, attitudes and feelings.
Have you ever swindled anyone out of anything that was rightly his or hers? If so, list your attitudes, actions and feelings.
Are you greedy? List how you treat others. Do you demand them to do things your way? Do you cheat to get what you want or to win? Are you thoughtful of others feelings?
Has anyone ever told you that you have a problem with drinking, drugs or sexual addictions? What would make them think that you might have a problem? Do you look at pornography? Do you drink first thing in the morning or the last thing at night? To have a drink is not a sin, but to be a drunkard puts you in danger of the very lake of sulfur for all eternity. Drugs, since they are all mood altering, come under the same category as drinking. I have had people tell me there is nothing wrong with smoking a joint, but I pose to you this: Can you drink and not get drunk? Can you smoke marijuana and not get high? Examine the things you do to alter you moods. Do you find it necessary to cover how you truly feel much of the time? List your attitudes, actions and feelings about mood altering behaviors and substances.
Do you eat to make yourself feel better? Are you addicted to food. Did you know that gluttony is a sin? List here the times and ways you eat when hunger is not the true cause.
Father, for the sake of the name of your son, guide each one that is taking this inventory. Guide each one to the truth of what you see when you have looked without the blood of Jesus. Lord, help each one to be open and honest as they seek the truth according to your word. Let each one be humble enough to admit the flaws that are a part of us all. Father, for the sake of the name of Jesus, show each one the areas in which they are in your will and pleasing unto you. In Jesus name, prepare each one for the cleansing to come, amen.
