It's Free! by Ray McAllister Well, most of you probably haven't thought much about comparing the Gospel to making popcorn. I haven't much, either, except one day this week when I made some and thought about how it shows something about the Kingdom of God. Here's the poem I wrote. Popcorn (19 June 2001) The Kingdom of Heaven Is like a man making popcorn. He stands before the hard Heavy Dryness of vacancy. Which waits to burst forth with life's surprise. And yet He knows That for such transformation All must spend a season in this heat He watches As At first a few small kernels Break forth with joy And then as a little more Join the world of lightest softness. He longs For every piece to be perfect And so He waits For more And more To expand in grace. And yet He knows That some will never accept And take shape And if He lets this time continue forever All will soon be burned And lost. So wisely He must wait For just the right moment When as many as possible are ready And then He will come With gladness and strength To lift away His faithful treasures To His side. Basically I thought about how Jesus is waiting for us to be ready for Him to come, for as many as possible to come to know Him, but frankly, some kernels will never pop, some people will never accept His love. Eventually He will have to cut the time short for the sake of the elect and get us out of here before we are all destroyed down here. This is like how one making popcorn could possibly keep waiting for every last kernel to pop but in doing so he/she would burn the whole batch. Notes from Bunny.......... Thanks Ray.......wonderful is not saying enough! I just love your words, and your style of writing, and this story of yours denotes exactly what I am led to accomplish with Words....to get as many kernels to pop as I possibly can, with Jesus leading the way. Read John 14......Jesus says..... "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust in also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you may also be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going." "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know Him, and have seen him." This page is dedicated to my Dad, who would have been 89 today, and left us 21 years ago to be with the Lord. "Daddy, we know you are safely home, for we have been told, but we can't help missing you!"
