Little Andy Talks with God

Visitin' the Homeless Shelter
Hey there, Mr. God.
You got time ta talk ta me?
I gotta go visitin', to a shelter,
Ta see people whose got no home;
Like daddy an me.
I didn't like it there, so much.
I think it was very sad,
'Cause some of the people
Smelled kinda bad.
Daddy went ta pray
An daddy hugged some.
There was kids like me, Mr. God.
But, they don't have any fun.
I dunno why, when there's
Some empty houses 'round,
Why can't they live in 'em;
The ones that ain't fallin' down?
I jest think they need
A house like we live in.
Daddy jest shaked his head an says
We never been where they been.
Where they been, Mr. God?
I ain't ever been a lot of places.
Daddy says it's the little ones
That gives him sad faces.
I gotta hold a baby,
More little than lil' sister,
An her mamma said its aw'right
When I kissed her.
Daddy helped the cookers fix some food.
They had soup 'n crackers an corn cake.
Some liked it real good.
They didn't care what they made.
They had their lunch
In another one of your houses, too.
I guess they lived in there,
Kinda like we do.
Daddy says for me ta take the cake to 'em
An I fed a boy in a wheel chair.
He was bigger than me.
His daddy left him there.
His momma looked kinda sick.
Daddy says she was really tired.
She had worked hard for someone
An, then, she got fired.
Mr. God, you gotta job
That the lady can do?
Daddy says she's been prayin',
A lot, an trustin' in you.
Daddy says
I need to see how life is.
It will help to know
What I need to be.
Does that mean
I'm gonna be homeless, too?
That ain't what I want.
I wanna be jest like you.
Daddy says were gonna go back, ever Monday.
He says it will make me 'preciate
What we have an food on our plate,
An the good things that I ate.
I 'preciate livin' in your house, Mr. God,
An mamma keeps it real good;
And little sis an I
Do what we could.
I got real tired, taday,
From visitin' the people, over there.
An another thing, Mr. God,
I'm gonna learn ta share.
Next times I'm takin'
Some of my toys for 'em.
Do ya think they would like that,
If I take 'em some?
Momma is sendin' some baby clothes
For the little baby that I seen.
Momma says, little sis
Has way more'n than
She will ever need.
I'm takin' some books
For the boy ta read, in the chair.
Momma's sendin' some of her
Pretty dresses for that lady, over there.
I gotta go to bed.
Tell Jesus I said 'hello'.
An Mr. God, you know what?
I love ya more 'n more.
Jest wanted ta let ya know.
Good night, from Little Andy.
