I Gave My Life for Thee

Seq. by Eleanor Adams

Mahatma Gandhi once said, "I believe in the fundamental truth of all great religions of the world. I believe that they are all God-given and I believe that they were necessary for the people to whom these religions were revealed. And I believe that if only we could all of us read the scriptures of the different faiths from the standpoints of the followers of these faiths, we should find that they were at bottom all one and were all helpful to one another." Of course, we are just as ready to condemn that statement as any other that did not blossom out of our religion. Yet the Bible not only says, in so doing, 'we are too superstitious' but confirms it.
God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth ... needed not any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us. Acts 17:22-27

For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. Corinthians 1:16-17.
Gandhi's statement is just one example of there being at least some truth in every religion ... and we can know that as even Satan is transformed as an angel of light. Even so, as long as we believe we only know in part and prophesy in part, that that which is perfect has not yet come, we also have to realize there are things not true about all religions. And if you have observed, you may have also noticed religion changes with every generation. So, with the huge multitude of religions, it seems absurd that any should think they yet have all the answers.

Even so, many are so very educated that they no longer get their instruction from God; add laws to the scriptural law and demand submission as if they are God. And even some of the most spiritual appear as if they know everything God believes, everything He thinks. They do not even have to ask Him, as they already know all the rules. They decide who is worthy to serve, who is the right gender, who has all the right stuff, and mock all the rest. Perhaps you, too, have had such run-ins.

Some worship their leader, or their religion, instead of God. Others just find it easier to believe whatever they are told to believe.

Even scripture bears record that God does not always answer the same way. The Lord decides matters based upon the heart and those God chose were often misfits who did not have all the skills but would depend upon Him. When people are spiritually held captive from serving God, it is not God's doing. There are a lot of Pharaohs out there.

Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. So, unless our religion is pure and completely undefiled, maybe we need to be listening for God instead of telling Him what He believes.

The man of sin man opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God ... and there are many.

Has the church fallen away, or just left their first love?

Jesus says, "I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent."

The mystery of 'who hath done what' iniquity doth already work.
Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

~ Human Traditions ~

A thousand years of sitting
Ensnared within a prison cell,
Our fathers told us of our roots, and
Through the years we've learned it well.

A mystery revealed at last;
Our Savior opens up the door—
He calls us to discover freedom,
But we like slavery much more.

A thousand years of man's traditions
Have taught the safety of a cell.
Though Christ Himself is calling us,
We know these walls have kept us well.
