When the Comforter is come, whom I shall send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me" (John 15:26) It is something so wonderful, that words cannot convey the true power of it. As we become a christian, The Holy Spirit enters into our hearts, sealing us with the love of God. The Holy Spirit is God in action. This action represents the divine as it moves within the hearts of men, and in so doing, it has influenced history, shaping the destinies of nations, according to the wisdom and power of God. We are filled with joy and peace just by believing on Jesus Christ. We begin to see others in a different light. Old feelings of bitterness and hatred are washed away in the glorious light of a new life in Christ. At times we are lifted up above the burdens of this life through the Spirit. When we are truly led by God's Spirit we become a child of His. No longer are we condemned in our Father's sight, but are made free from sin. We can see the clear plan that God has instore for all of us. The Spirit searches all things, and unleashes the deep things of God. The essential are of the Holy Spirit is the human heart. Here it works in the mind and conscience and emotions of the person. We deal directly with the inmost being, no mediating medium between the soul and the Spirit but God Himself is there in our hearts. We may not understand it, and we may not be able to express our feelings and our thoughts or when and how the Holy Spirit changed our conciousness but it is there in our lives shaping how we think and feel. This same Spirit gives us different gifts (or talents) to use in our service to God. For some it is to preach, to others it is to sing, teach, give, pray and so forth. Each Christian as a different strength of area that God's wants us to use to glorify Him by leading others to Him. These gifts also help us to grow in grace. If we confess the beautiful name of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, we know that the Holy Spirit dwells within us. St Paul says that no man can call Jesus Lord except by the Holy Ghost. It is through the teachings of the Holy Spirit within our hearts that we come to know and to love the Christ as the Son of God, and the Saviour of the World. His mighty works and his relationship to God as the Eternal son are brought home to us through the guidance and teaching of the Spirit of Truth. He is able to enter into our personality in such a close relationship that we can see the power of Christ so obedience to Christs word is possible if we desire it enough in our hearts. We can do the will of God because we have received from Christ the power of the Holy Spirit to deny ourself and make God's will our own. In this way, we enter into the very life of God. "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God" (Rom 8:14 Franklin N. Parker, dean of theology Emory university wrote: "the holy spirit enables us to, win souls, carry the gospel to the ends of the earth, endure affliction, bear burdens, fight the fight of faith, achieve things that only godlike power can bring to pass." The ordinary ways of the Holy Spirit's actions are gentle and quiet and not seen as we discover the power of this Spirit in our lives. We shall not lose our way and the acceptance of the fact of his presence will make our lives new through Jesus Christ our Lord. This Spirit is like a homing beacon in our heart that guides us towards God and His Son. If we follow this beacon without fear or untrust we shall inherit eternal life in the Resurrection. The Spirit placed the seal of God on us, so that we will be part of the everlasting kingdom of God. Can you hear what the Spirit is saying to you? Won't you accept the loving gift that God offers to all? ![]() "Only when a person receives the Holy Spirit, the Lord Jesus Christ comes to dwell within him" (Jn 14:20-23 ) by: Greg Belcher and Gayl Wells May 2002 |
