A long time ago, a ruler named Caesar Augustus ordered a census,

which was a count of all the people, to be taken throughout
his empire.
This was the first census when a man
named Quirinius was governor of Syria, a country north of Israel.

Everyone had to travel
to the place his family originally came

from to be counted. So Joseph went from the town of Nazareth,

in Galilee, up to Bethlehem in Judah, King David's town, for the census.

King David   was a great-great-great (many greats) grandfather of Joseph.

He took Mary, his soon to be wife, who was pregnant by the Holy Spirit.

While they were in Bethlehem, the time came for her to give birth.
She gave birth to a son, her firstborn, and named him
Jesus.

She wrapped Him in swaddling clothes, (which were cloths wrapped

around the baby to keep Him warm), and laid Him in a manger,

because there was no room in the inn.

Nearby, there were shepherds watching over their

flocks of sheep that night. And an angel of the Lord

appeared before them, and the shepherds were

very frightened. Then the angel said to them,

"Don't be afraid! I have come to tell you good news

which shall be for everyone! For today in the city of David (Bethlehem),

a Savior is born, who is Christ the Lord.

And here is the way for you to know Him.

You will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths,  lying in a manger."

And suddenly there was a huge number of angels, praising God and saying,

"Glory to God in the highest,

And on earth peace, goodwill toward everyone!"

After the angels had gone away from the shepherds back into heaven,

the shepherds said to each other,

"Let us go to Bethlehem to see this wonderful thing that the angels told us about."

And they hurried to Bethlehem and found Mary and Joseph, and baby Jesus,

who was lying in a manger.

After the shepherds had seen baby Jesus, they told many people

the story of how they came to find Him. And everyone who heard the

shepherd's story was amazed at what they were told.

Mary kept all these thoughts in her heart, and thought about them often.

Then the shepherds returned to their fields, glorifying and

praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen.

Did you enjoy the story? The best thing about this story
is that it is true!! Jesus really was born and He is God's Son.
He loves us so much that He died on the cross for our sins,
so that when we die, we will go to heaven to live with Him there,
if we will only believe in Him. That's a promise from God
found in the Bible in John 3:16.
