When you were just a little pup
Your look of love was all it took.
Although I had another pet
I could not leave you by yourself

You always seemed to want to be
The best of best for only me.
You even tried to sing to me,
When you heard me humming softly

I never had to worry that
You would harm anyone and yet,
Your love for all was plain to see
But it always seemed to start with me

As time went by, you grew into
a beautiful dog, through and through
If ever there was a super dog
You filled the bill in every cause.

Your wagging tail was never still
Happy to be near to me
Loving and protector be,
Nothing was too much for me.

Then one day, you seemed not well
no food, nor play was there for you.
The vet said you had not long to live
And yet, you seemed to love me still.

You'll never know the love you gave
But in our hearts you will remain
It won't be long, we know 'tis true
But there will never be another you.

Note:
Our dear Prince had cancer and fought a long fight.
He never ceased to want to watch over me,
even up until the end.
He crossed over "The Rainbow Bridge" on Jan. 27, 2003.
He truly lives on in my heart,
because he was a true, loyal friend.
