Whereas it is the duty of all nations to
be grateful for His benefits, and humbly
to implore His protection and favor;
and Whereas both Houses of Congress have,
by their joint committee, requested me
"to recommend to the people of the United States
a day of public thanksgiving and prayer,
to be observed by acknowledging with grateful
hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God,
especially by affording them an opportunity
peaceably to establish a form of government
for their safety and happiness.

Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday,
the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by
the people of these States to the service of that
great and glorious Being who is the Beneficent
Author of all the good that was, that is,
or that will be; that we may then all unite
in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble
thanks for His kind care and protection of the
people of this country previous to their
becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold
mercies and the favorable interpositions
of His providence in the course and conclusion
of the late war; for the great degree of
tranquility, union, and plenty which we have
since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational
manner in which we have enabled do establish
constitutions of government for our safety
and happiness, and particularly the national
one now lately instituted; for the civil and
religious liberty with which we are blessed,
and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing
useful knowledge; and, in general, for the
great and various favors which He has been
please to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly
offering our prayers and supplications to the
great Lord and Ruler of Nations, and beseech
Him to pardon our national and other transgressions;
to enable us all, whether in public or private
stations, to perform our several and relative
duties properly and punctually; to render our
national government a blessing to all the people
by constantly being a government of wise, just,
and constitutional laws, discreetly and
faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect
and guide all sovereigns and nations
(especially such as have shown kindness to us),
and to bless them with good governments,
peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge
and practice of true religion and virtue,
and the increase of science among them and us;
and, generally, to grant unto all mankind
such a degree of temporal prosperity as He
alone knows to be best.

The first Thanksgiving was celebrated because
of the abundance of the harvest and the goodness
that God had bestowed. It was a time in which
the Pilgrims could forget the hardships that
had brought them to a new land of religious freedom.

I think that one of the purposes of Thanksgiving
is to celebrate the freedoms we have, not just
one day out of the year, but every day.
Thanksgiving is also a time when we come
together as a nation. Sad to say, but the
things that our forefathers stood for and
even died for appear to be disappearing
from America. We no longer are allowed to
have prayer in school or even mention Easter,
as it has to be referred to as Spring break.
No public displayed decorations pertaining to
Christ's birth, because it might offend some.
What about Christians...are you not offended,
because of this? Why is this happening?
We have allowed it by not keeping up on our
home work and in doing so have elected in to
office liberals who allow such laws to be passed.
Our money even has IN GOD WE TRUST written on it,
but how long will this remain, if we continue
down the path we are going now? It is way past
time that we stood up and let our voices be heard.
Do not allow this to continue by sitting back
and being quiet or saying, "what can I do?"
America has been blessed, but how long will this
continue when we, (yes, we...Christians included)
will not stand up for Him?

Take time this season to remember the "true meaning"
of the holidays. It is not just any time of the
year but a time to celebrate a new beginning in
our hearts.

"Thanksgiving"

Thanksgiving is a time to say,
thank you, Lord, in every way.
Thank you for salvation free,
Thank you for your love for me.

Thank you for your patience, too
For we are never fair to you.
Thank you for the air we breath
and all the flowers and the trees.

Thank you for the gift of prayer
even though we forget you're there.
Coming to your throne of grace
Praises come from every race.

Thank you for our country, Lord
Keep us safe and in one accord.
Let our freedom ring out true
Because this is because of you.

Thank you for our friends and family.
As we come on bended knee,
Let us never fail to see,
The importance of the need of Thee.
