~In the light of His Glory and Grace~
By Tori Taff
You know people we love don't always leave this earth with every
dispute settled, every important message delivered,
every pardon asked for and received.
My husband, Russ Taff, lost his father a few years ago
and in the words of a song we later wrote about him,
"They loved each other so very much but not so very well".
They didn't have the chance for a final conversation.
So Russ was left with the full weight of his grief
and also of their unfinished business.
In the months and now the years since then,
I've watched Russ slowly begin to let go of the pain of that loss
but it never really goes away.
I'm sure our Heavenly Father understands that yearning,
that need for reconciliation,
His own son died for it.
But what do you do if it's too late...
I believe in a heaven where our human frailties and mistakes
and all the pain we cause each other because of them
will not only be forgiven,
but healed and forgotten;
tossed into the sea of forgetfulness once and for all.
I believe in a heaven that has a quiet corner somewhere
waiting for Russ and his dad so they can sit down face to face
and finally have that talk.
And I believe in a heaven so infused with the loving presence
of God that even the sadness of a broken relationship
will grow strangely dim.
