What Is A Christian?

About ImageAbout ImageAbout ImageAbout Image

A Christian is someone who in the past...
was alienated from God(Eph. 4:18)
fulfilled the desires of the flesh(Eph. 2:3)
walked according to the ways of the world(v.2)
and by nature a child of wrath(v.3)
but who is now a new creature in Christ(2Cor.5:17)

He is someone who has...
turned from darkness to light(1Peter2:9)
and from the power of satan to God(Acts26:18)
having been redeemed by the blood of the Lamb(1Peter2:9)

forgiven of all sin(Eph.1:7)
and made alive by God's Spirit(Eph.2:15)
so that he might walk worthy of the Lord in all
pleasing being fruitful in every good work(Col.1:10)

A Christian is someone who has been called
forth by our Heavenly Father to reflect Him
and to bear the image of His Son.
Our whole purpose in being here on planet earth
is to be as shiny lights standing out against
the darkness of a sinful world.
This means letting Jesus live His life
in and through us.
Are we doing that?

We must learn to say...
"Yes, Lord Jesus, I do want to be
a truly godly person."
"Yes, Lord Jesus, I do want You to live
Your life in and through me."
"I do want my life to shine out against
the darkness of our sinful world."

What Is Holiness?

Holiness is not living by a long list
of rules or wearing drab clothing and a
long face or trying to be absolutely sinless.
That's Impossible!

Holiness is laying aside the excess
baggage in our lives, the weights that
drag us down. It is putting aside the
sins that so easily beset us so
that we can have the freedom of
living joyously in Christ. We can't
have that freedom and hang onto
our sins at the same time.
It just won't work.

Holiness is having a heart of pure
love for the Saviour. A heart
wherein there is...no hidden agenda,
no impure motives, no sin unconfessed
and unjudged, no ambition Christ
cannot share, no undertaking in
which He is not included.

Holiness is being utterly transparent
before God.

And holiness is something God
commands. We are not given a
choice. The Word of God says,
"But as He which hath called you
is holy, so be ye holy in all manner
of conversation." (1Peter1:15)

Ask Yourself...

Am i absolutely certain that I am
a born again Christian, or am I
Christian in name only?

Do I love God's Word and want to
read it? (Ps.119:11)

Do I love God's house and want to
be there? (Heb.10:25)

When I hear God's Word do I want
to obey it? (Luke 11:28)

When I sin am I anxious to confess it?
And forsake it? (1John 1:9)

Do I love other Christians and want to be
with them? (1John 3:14)

Then Ask Yourself...

Am I spending time with God each day?

Is the Word of God coming alive in me,
or am I just reading words on a page?

Do I love God's Word enough to meditate
on it and memorize it?

Is it my guidebook for daily choices?

Am I regularly worshipping with other believers?

Am I burdened for lost people?

Are my moral and ethical choices pleasing to God?

Is my life increasingly being lived under
the Lordship of Christ?

Do my attitudes reflect Christlikeness?

Is my life an exhibit to the value of
knowing God?

Does my life bear the stamp of Christ?

These are questions we need to go
through slowly, letting God search our hearts
with the searchlight of the Word!

If we just remember
what the Bible says....
God is always faithful.
He always honors His Word
And....
nothing is impossible to Him.
Our part is to be obedient (by faith),
and leave the results to God!

And never forget the Power of Prayer!

God may just want to do a miracle.
And He may just want to use us.
And that too, is part of what
holiness is all about!
