Night Song
By day the Lord directs His love,
at night His song is with me...
{Psalm 42:8}
Overwhelmed by deep sorrows embracing us, a
day of strain, misery and doubt. The night
is silent, wandering animals have settled
down. Starlight shimmers on quieted ponds
and lakes. Gentle breezes caress the meadows
and ridges. Solace as this in the presence
of God's glory brings song to one's heart.
When we admire beautiful flowers, listen to lofty bird
songs and note the play of sunlight and the shadows
of passing storms, let us join as we are able, in
rapt attention to all the marvelous works of God.
Softly sung praises and spoken prayers come easily
to mind and voice. Jesus, praying through the night,
and hope softly returns. God's Word is sure. Soon
deep slumber comes, followed by morning. God is
close by, and we are renewed.
