Staying Ever Ready

Someone said, "if you want to be an expert on a subject, study it for one hour every day for five years. And then find different ways to use that knowledge every day of your life." It's the repetition that is important.

The concept of overlearning helps to bring to mind information without thinking much about it. Jesus wanted His disciples to "get the point." He said, "When you pray, pray like this." He also said, "Watch" and "Be Ready." In Matthew 24 and 25, the Lord Jesus is emphasizing a major point over and over again, through clear statements and through parables. Repeatably, He warns us to stay alert and ready for His unexpected return. Hold out to the end; don't be misled; keep awake; hold yourselves ready; be found at the master's task.

Is there anything in our lives that separate us from the Lord? What draws us closer to Him? Life goes by so quickly. We are all living in "last days," whether we like to think that way or not. Each day is a gift from God, a new beginning, a second chance to draw closer to Him. The Lord is eager for us to stay alert, to be ready at a moment's notice. How will we respond to His urgent admonition in this passage from Matthew? Remember, that answer is no minor thing!
