The World's Greatest Book!

The Bible is the book that tells the stories of
God's great love for all people since the very
beginning of time. Some say it is the greatest
book that has ever been written. People all
over the world read the Bible.

Those who wrote the many stories of the Bible
were inspired by God and wrote about God's
care. That is why the Bible is called the
"Word Of God".

Every day the Bible is read in churches all over
the world. Each Sunday we hear the "Word Of
God" and remember God's love.

It is easy and fun!!

The Bible is about people just like us except that
they lived many thousands of yeras ago. They
were, like each of us, very special to God.

Throughout the stories in the Bible, we hear and
read that God's people are special and very much
loved by God.

The earliest stories of God's love are found in the
"Old Testament". The "Old Testament" is the first
part of the Bible. It tells how God worked in the
world before the coming of Jesus.

The "New Testament" is the second part of the
Bible. In it we read of Jesus' life and His message
of love.

As we study "The Word Of God" we can learn parts
of "The Old" and "The New" Testaments, and see
for ourselves just why, it is "The Greatest Book",
ever written.

God Creates The Earth
Part 1
Genesis 1:1-19

The earth is very old. No one knows when it
was made, But God has always been alive
He created the heavens and the earth. The
earth was empty and very dark and covered with
water. Nothing lived on the earth.
God said, "Let there be light," and there was
light. God saw the light was good. He called
the light Day and the darkness Night. This was
the first day. On the second day, God spoke
and made the sky.
Next, God said, "I want the dry land to come
out of the water." And so it did. God named the land
Earth and the waters Sea. God saw that this was
good. Then God said, "Let all the green plants
grow out of the earth." All this happened on the
third day, and it was good.
Then on the fourth day, God spoke again. He
said, "Let the sun and moon and stars come into
the sky." So this happened. God put them in the
sky to give light to the earth. The sun shines in the
day. The moon and stars shine at night. God saw
that this was good, too.

Questions:
What lived on earth before the first day?
Name some things God created in the first four days.

God Creates The Earth
Part 2
Genesis 1:20-2:3

On the fifth day, God spoke again. ahe said,
"I want the seas to be filled with living
things. I want birds to fly in the sky," So
God created everything that lives in the sea and
flies in the sky. And God blessed them.
Then God said, "Let the animals live on earth."
So he created big animals and little things that
creep on the ground. God saw that all this was good.
Finally, God said, "Now I am going to make
human beings. Unlike the animals, they will stand
up tall and have a soul. They will be like me, rule
the earth, and care for it." So God took some dust
from the ground and formed man. He breathed
the breath of life into him.Man became alive.
God blessed them saying, "I want you to live all
over the earth." God saw that everything He had
made was very good. This ended the sixth day.
On the seventh day God rested. His work was
done. So He blessed that day and made it Holy.

Questions:
How many days did God use for creation?
What did God do on the seventh day?

Morning Prayer

Now, before I run to play,
Let me not forget to pray
To God Who kept me through the night
And waked me with the morning light.

Help me, Lord, to love Thee more
Than I ever loved before,
In my work and in my play,
Be Thou with me through the day.
Amen

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, Who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy Name,
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
In earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil,
For thine is the kingdom,
And the power, and the glory,
Forever.
Amen

Noah Builds The Ark
(Genesis 6:1-7:5)

The Land was full of people. God looked at
the world He had made. The people were
wicked. God said, "I am sorry I made these people."
But God saw one good man named Noah. He
told Noah, "I am going to wipe out the people I made.
They will die with all things on earth. Only
you are living right. So you and your family will be
saved." Then God told Noah to build a huge boat
called an ark. This ark was as big as a three-story
building. "I am going to flood the earth with
water," God said, "All the people and all the animals
will drown." "Noah, "God went on, "bring two
of every kind of animal into the ark. Gather food
for them and for yourself. Then go into the ark
with your family. In seven days I will send rain. The
rain will fall for forty days. Everything I created
will be wiped off the earth." And Noah did all
the things God told him to do.

Questions:
Why did God flood the earth?
Why did He save Noah?

Jacob and Esau-Genesis 25:20-34

Isaac got married to Rebekah who was a syrian woman,
when he was 40 years old. Isaac prayed for
God to give them a child. God blessed him
by giving them twins. God told Isaac that the oldest
child would serve the younger child and they would
be from two different nations. Apparently one looked
more like his father and one looked more like his Mother.
Esau was red and hairy when he was born and
Jacob was grabbing onto his brothers heel when
he was born. Isaac's favorite son was Jacob because
he was a skilled hunter. Rebekeah's favorite son was Jacob.
Jacob was a mild man who stayed in the tents and cooked stew.

One day Esau was out in the field and Jacob was cooking
stew inside the tent. Esau was tired and hungry after all
his work and when he got to the tent, jacob asked Esau
to sell his birthright in exchange for some stew he cooked
up. Esau asked; " what good is my birthright when I'm
starving to death"? So Esau sold his birthright to his
brother Jacob. A birthright was a special blessing usually
given to the oldest son.

Did you notice that Esau was tired and hungry when he sold
his birthright to his brother?

Did you also notice that their parents each had
a favorite son?

Do you think this caused problems between the brothers ?

Fill in the blanks below.
______ Was red and hairy when he was born
______ Was a skilled hunter
______ was Rebekah's favorite son
______ was Isaac's favorite son
_______ was a mild man that stayed in the tents and cooked stew
_______ was grabbing onto his brothers heel when he was born.

What lessons can you learn from this story?
Pray and ask God to help you learn what he wants you to learn from this story.
Write out what God is saying to you and what you have learned today.

Once _______ sold his birthright to his brother he
could never get it back again. It was
a special blessing that could not be recovered.
Try to remember that before you give up something
God has given you to do. Maybe some work He
has for you alone to do. You are special
to God and none else can do what He called you
to do. God bless you all.

Noah Lives In The Ark
(Genesis 7:6-8:19)

Noah was 600 years old when the rain started.
Rain fell for forty days and forty nights. It
rained like windows in the sky were opened. But
the window in the ark was closed. Noah was safe
inside and could not see out. One day, Noah sent
out a dove. The dove came back with an olive leaf.
So Noah knew the earth was drying out at last.
"Bring your family and all the animals out," God called.
Gladly, Noah came out. He had lived in the ark for
over a year.

Questions:
1. How did Noah know he could leave the ark?
2. How long did Noah live in the ark?

Seeds And Flowers!

I helped my daddy plant some seeds.
We dug in the ground.
We put in some brown seeds.
We covered the seeds with earth.
We sprinkled the earth with water.
My daddy said, "The seeds will change.
The earth and water and sunshine will
help them change.

Then there will be a flower."
"How will a seed be a flower", I asked
my daddy.
"By growing", my daddy said.
"God planned it that way."
"Seeds are alive inside.
"Things that are alive grow.
Only God could have planned life and
growing."

I wondered.
The place where we had planted the seeds
was all covered with earth.
I could not see life.
I could not see growing.
I came the next day to look.
There was only earth.
"Growing takes time", my daddy told me.
One day I saw something else.
There was a little bit of green coming through the ground.
Every day when I came to look, the little bit of green was bigger.
Soon it was a stem with leaves on it.

Then one day there was a bud on the stem.
And after awhile the bud opened.
It was a flower, a bright red flower!
Just like my daddy had said!
I ran to tell my daddy!
My daddy looked at the flower.
"Once it was a seed", he said.
"We planted it in the ground.
It had life inside it.
There was water and sunshine.
The seed grew.
Now it is a flower.
God planned it that way"!

Zacchaeus
(Luke 19:1-10)

Jesus was going through Jericho, where a man named
Zacchaeus lived. He was in charge of collecting taxes*
and was very rich. Jesus was heading his way, and
Zacchaeus wanted to see what He was like. But
Zacchaeus was a short man and could not see over the
crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed up into a sycamore
tree. When Jesus got there, He looked up and said,
"Zacchaeus, hurry down! I want to stay with you today."
Zacchaeus hurried down and gladly welcomed Jesus.
Everyone who saw this started grumbling. "This man
Zacchaeus is a sinner! And Jesus is going home to eat
with him." Later that day Zacchaeus stood up and said
to the Lord, "I will give half of my property to the
poor. And I will now pay back four times as much*
to everyone I have cheated." Jesus said to Zacchaeus,
"Today you and your family have been saved,* because
you are a true son of Abraham.* The Son of Man
came to look for and save people who are lost."

A Song For You

Zacchaeus was a wee little man
and a wee little man was he
He climbed up in the sycamore tree
For the Lord he wanted to see
And as the Saviour passed that way
He said, Zacchaeus you come down
For I'm going to your house today
