The Power Of Touch

Jesus touched multitudes while here on earth. He washed feet. He reached out to little children. (Mark 10:14-16), to lepers (Matt 8:3), to the sick (Mark 5:29) and to the dead (Mark 5:41-42). By touching those society considered "untouchable," He modeled love, tenderness and compassion. When Jesus healed someone, He touched them. Now He could have just said, "Be healed," but He didn't. He touched them and then said, "Be healed." People wanted to touch Jesus too, like the woman who wanted to touch the hem of His garment. Whether young or old, we are usually comforted by another's loving touch. It evokes pleasure, reassures us, and it tells us we are not alone. An unspoken language, a soothing hand, an arm around someone grieving.

Touch goes deeper than just the skin. It reaches into hearts, with the power to change someone forever. Never forget you're in God's hands and that your children and the others you love are, likewise in yours.

Pass It On
(1) Hold hands during mealtime prayers. (2)Walk one-on-one with each child. Swing hands and talk. Tell jokes. Sing. (3)Bad day. Sigh dramatically and say, "I sure could use a great big hug from someone special. (4) Wonderful day! Shout, "Hey everybody! Come hug me! I had the best day!" (5) Make "Hug Sandwiches," with your spouse, gently surprise unsuspecting children. (6) Declare "100 Hugs Day," Count. (7) Do Four-Directions Kisses: North: foreheads, south, chins, east/west, chins. (8) Wrap your arm around your children during church, while waiting together or watching Tv. (9) Appy the Pat Principle: "When in doubt, pat." God made lots of patting places...heads, cheeks, knees, hands, shoulders and backs. Remember everyone needs loving touches, and our children are gifts from God, He touched us, He loved us, and we can pass His loving touch to those we know and love. When's the last time you took 60 seconds and gave your spouse and kids a passel of hugs and kisses? Are you a few shy?
