WORDS...
|
There have been some embarrassing times
in my life where I have said things I wished
later on that I could "take back."
Have you ever been in that kind of situation?
If you have you know how I felt. I believe it is called
"Foot in the mouth "disease :)
The Bible speaks volumes about our words and
how we use them either for good or evil.
THAT'S
A MOUTHFUL
DON'T look now, Lord! I don't want
You to see me
standing here with my big foot crammed in my mouth.
DON'T
worry, child.
If I didn't love you just as much with your foot in your
mouth,
I'd hardly ever get a chance to love you.

WORDS.....
I have been thinking about words
and what the Bible says about them.
The Bible tells us, "Let the words of my mouth
and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy
sight,
O Lord, my strength and redeemer."
(Psalm 19:13 KJV)
Spoken words can bring good news, heal a
wounded spirit, uplift a weary soul, tear down a
reputation,
hurt a tender spirit, reveal secrets, or bring
destruction through lying and evil words.
Proverbs are pearls of wisdom. The book of
Proverbs is filled with instruction on the use of our
words.
There is no way I can mention every scripture,
so you may want to do a study of your own.
But let me share a few scriptures I hope will
enlighten and minister to you.
All are taken from the NIV, unless stated otherwise.

Proverbs 21:23
"He who guards his mouth and
his tongue keeps himself from calamity."
Proverbs 20:19
" A gossip betrays a confidence;
so avoid a man who talks too much."
Proverbs 25:11
"A word aptly spoken is like apples of gold in
settings of silver."

Proverbs 13:3
"He who guards his lips guards his life,
but he who speaks rashly will come to ruin."
Proverbs 12:16
"A fool shows his annoyance at once,
but a prudent man overlooks an insult."
Proverbs 16:28
"A perverse man stirs up dissension,
and a gossip separates close friends."
Proverbs 16:24
"Pleasant words are a honeycomb,
sweet to the soul and healing to the bones."
Proverbs 16:21
"The wise in heart are called discerning,
and pleasant words promote instruction."

Proverbs 11:13
"A gossip betrays a confidence,
but a trustworthy man keeps a secret."
Psalm 141:3
"Set a guard over my mouth, O Lord;
keep watch over the door to my lips."
Psalm 39:1
"I said, I will watch my ways and keep my tongue
from sin;
I will put a muzzle on my mouth..."
James 3:5-9
"The tongue is a small part of the body,
but it makes great boasts...
no man can tame the tongue.
It is restless evil, full of deadly poison...
with the tongue we praise our Lord and Father,
and with it we curse men."
Proverbs 18:21
"The tongue has the power of life and death..."
Proverbs 12:25
"An anxious heart weighs a man down,
but a kind word cheers him up."

Proverbs 15:4
"The tongue that brings healing is a tree of life,
but a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit."
Ecclesiastes 7:5
"It is better to heed a wise man's rebuke
than to listen to the laughter of fools."
Proverbs 15:1
"A gentle answer turns away wrath,
but a harsh word stirs up anger."
Some of the greatest words ever spoken are, "I
forgive you."
The Lord spoke them to us and told us He forgave us of
our sins
and we should tell others that we forgive them.
Some of the saddest people on earth are those who will
not say, "I forgive", or those who won't
receive forgiveness.

~THE GREAT FORGIVER~
"If you forgive anyone, I also forgive him.
And what I have forgiven-if there was anything to
forgive,
I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake in
order
that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware
of his schemes." (II Corinthians 2:10-11 NIV)
Unforgiveness is a path that leads you nowhere~
its stepping stones are anger, bitterness, frustration,
hatred, spite, broken promises, distrust and despair.
These stones are heavy to carry around and hard to bear,
so we lay them down one after another in front of us
until there are so many we have made a path. If only we
would learn to lay our stones down
at the feet of Jesus~ what heartache we could avoid.
For unforgiveness is a dead end road~ full of potholes
and speed bumps~that take our eyes off Jesus and leads us
away from the Great
Forgiver!
Satan thrills at the prospect of walking you each step of
the way, up and down your path. Back and forth, over and
over, he'll take you along that same destructive path.
He'll cause you to bump your feet on every stone you laid
down to remind you of the very thing that caused the
stone to be there in the first place. Your
unforgiveness grows at every remembrance and you
never get any further in your walk because you can't
get past the path of stones you laid down.
"A happy man makes the face cheerful,
but heartache crushes the spirit."
(Proverbs 15:13 NIV)
How do we change the direction of our path? How do
we renew our spirit? How do we smooth the stones and fill
in the crevices so we don't stumble upon our
unforgiveness?
"Bear with each other and forgive whatever
grievances you may have against one another.
Forgive as the Lord forgave you." (Colossians
3:13)
Forgiveness is the mortar that will join
together our stones and make our path level.
" The path of the righteous is level; O upright One,
you make the way of the righteous smooth."
(Isaiah 27:7)
Words of forgiveness is the bandage that
will mend your broken heart and richly restore you.
But how do I reach inside myself to find the forgiveness
I need to give? You go back to the beginning- the point
where you laid down that first heavy stone and you
scuffed your toes on it! Isaiah 55:6 says,
"Seek the Lord while he may be found;
call on him while he is near."
Give Him the stone you are kneeling on and all the ones
that lay beyond it~ Ask Him to pave your path with His
love and fill your heart with His forgiveness. Seek
the Forgiver, your Healer, and your Deliverer! Then you
will be able to say, " I run in the path of your
commands, for you have set my heart free."
(Psalm 119:32)
Now rise and walk your path again. With forgiveness in
your heart and Jesus by your side you no longer walk a
dead end path~ you walk a road with endless
possibilities!
"Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze
directly
before you. Make level paths for your feet, and take
only way that are firm. Do not swerve to the right
or the left; keep your foot from evil."
(Proverbs 4:25-27)

I
LOVE YOU
Another of the greatest words spoken are
"I LOVE YOU."
Not only did Jesus say He forgives us,
but he also said He loves us. "
For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten
Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish,
but have everlasting life."
(John 3:16 KJV)
I
TOLD YOU ONCE...
"I LOVE YOU"
One morning a wife went to her husband and asked him why
he never told her that he loved her. He said,
"You know I love you." She said,
"We'll, you don't tell me anymore." The
husband seemed agitated and looked her straight in the
eyes and said, "I told you twenty five years ago
when we got married that I loved you. If it ever changes
I'll let you know!
Talk about a mouthful of foot!!!

We are told that we can tell a lot about a person within
the first five to ten seconds of meeting them, just by
listening to what they say. What your words telling
others about you?
Let me encourage you today to be conscious of the words
you speak. They can either bring life or death to the
hearer.
