While incapacitated, due to an accident, I was comforted by a move of the Holy Spirit through poetry.For months I could not do anything for myself and spent much of the time alone praying and studying the Word of God. I always wanted the time to spend with the Lord, now I had it and planned to take advantage and use this time fruitfully.
Click here to read the rest of my testimony: From February 1996 to February 1997 I was encouraged by these poems, called “The River Of Life”; all based on the Word of God.
They became a river of life, with its teachings, words of peace and revival during a stressful time. I learned to use the Word while praying. Whatever my prayer concerns were for the day, I would receive an answer or some sort of response from the Word of God and then led to write what was being impressed into my heart.
I learned that the power in the Word of God is capable of convicting, converting and reviving (Hebrews 4:12). Prayers that talk directly to God about Himself, built up my faith to see myself in relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This gave me a renewed vision of Jesus and who He wanted to be to me.
Every poem has a background. Whatever I was going through; physically, mentally or spiritually, it is reflected in the poetry. Whether I was praying for myself or others, the Lord would also show His concern by giving a word.
For example:In November 2006, a Word from the Lord, was given to the church, “Go into hiding and confess the Word of God. This will build your faith and give you a renewed vision of Jesus Christ. Get away from the creative preaching and teaching and return to the old ways of doing things.” This encouraged me to began a fast and take my prayer time to a higher level.“Through The Fire” - After receiving a report from my doctor that I was not healed enough to return to work, then receiving word that my job was gone, I felt downhearted and cried out to God. He reassured me by with, “I will bring you through the fire; refining you as silver is refined, and trying you as gold is tried; purging your heart and refreshing your mind. My refining work is to purify; Burning out all from life, to set you free. Placed inside you is a call, requiring obedience; so stop ministering for Me and minister to Me.”
This showed me, no matter what was happening in my life God had a plan. My job was to keep praying and studying.
”The Psychic” - I learned that a dear friend went to visit a psychic when she lost her job. I made it a project to pray for her every day. The Lord showed me that He was concerned with the things that concerned me. I loved this woman, we grew up together, attended the same church as children and adults. She visited and prayed with me while I was ill, but learning she consulted a psychic became distressing. I asked the Lord to give me the words to speak to her about this subject. She explained that she believed that psychics were from God because the one she went to knew so much truth about her. I took her through Scripture pointing out God's view on psychics, however she was convinced her psychic was Christian because she went to church.
I never touched the subject with her again and she separated herself from me, ending our friendship. I was saddened because I felt like a weak Christian, unable to help her see the error in her beliefs.
I kept up with how she was doing, over the years and learned she lost her home, filed bankruptcy, her mother died, after a long debilitating illness and she had a brain tumor. After not seeing her for many years, I asked the Lord to travel with me as I went to the hospital to visit her. There was a mission I had to complete and led her to repentance, asking the Lord to forgive her sins, then we prayed together for her son and granddaughter; her greatest concerns. She died a few days later, but I knew she was ready to see the Lord.
In this poem, the Lord guided me to tell a story about the work of a psychic and how, for believers, it could mean destruction.
”Save The Babies” - There was a debate going on about whether a fetus was an actual baby. The abortion issue has been a great concern for me and in a study, I was doing, on the Blood of Christ, it was revealed that many souls were claimed through the sacrificial Blood, therefore, Satan has claimed this nation, as belonging to him, because he has saturated the land with the sacrificial blood of babies. This issue need the consistent prayer of the Saints to save these babies and to show Satan and the world, this country does not belong to him.
In February 2007, the Lord spoke to my heart saying, “Now is the 'appointed time' to release these words of encouragement to the believers of Jesus Christ.” Praying with and for many Christians, over the years, have shown me that through their struggles, fears, pain, grief, illnesses, sorrow, loneliness; a fresh vision of Jesus is required to renew the strength needed to endure. We need to be reminded of the benefits given us as children of God. We have been warned that the righteous would have many afflictions and will go through trying times. It is how we handled these difficulties, that get us through. We must continuously believe God's promise to deliver us from all burdens and live with an attitude of victory.
Many of us are going through difficult times. The enemy is attacking our families, finances, bodies, minds, etc. He understands the born again believer of Jesus Christ is his enemy. His goal is to remove the advantage of victory we have in Christ, by causing the Christian to wallow in bondage and defeat. A defeated Christian is one less enemy Satan has to worry about; one more warrior of the Kingdom of God taken out of commission. Knowing this is the enemy's goal, allows the Christian to pursue victory rather than wallow in defeat.
The River Of Life, is being offered to believers of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, to build faith in Him and to remind us, that as we go through trials, regardless the outcome, they will not devastate us. Do not allow your circumstances to blind you to the will of God! Troubles are used to elevate our trust in the Lord even more. Be encouraged and rest in His peace knowing, He will deliver you.
